Thanks for your quick response. Jim your right.  Not enough room for the z.  I’ll look at the specs on the other tube. I bought it at ham fest and 1 of the 5 tubes was bad.  I had a nos 6lf6 so I changed the plate spring because the 6kd6 is smaller to the larger one to fit the 6lf6.  The 6lf6 is a better tube so maybe I’ll change all tubes to 6lf6.Back in my tv days we used6kd6 for 19” crts and the 6lf6 for 23-25” crts horizontal output. I may get more pep with all 6lf6 and run cooler.  Most all sweep amps that used them used (Palomar) used 2 6lq6 to drive 4 6lf6. At the risk of running on I lubed the2 fans etc.  with 70-100 watts drive in I get close to 1KW out rms.  I paid $250 for it.  Did I get ripped off? Is there room physically?

Do the tune and load caps have wide enough spacing to withstand the voltage?

Will the plate supply provide enough voltage and current to keep a 3-500Z happy?

If any of those are a "no" then you'll have a lot of modification to
do. I suspect all three are a "no".

Consider a single GI-7B Russian ceramic tube instead of a 3-500Z. Or
a pair of them.

Amplifier for 1.25 meter band supports DMR?

DigitalRadioGuy

Anybody know of an amplifier that supports the various digital modes INCLUDING DMR on the 1.25 meter band?  I've seen some cheap amps that do several digital modes but they don't support anything using TDMA, specifically DMR.

Kenwood TL-922A $800.00

Lloyd Mitchell

Kenwood TL-922A HF linear amp with two 3-500Z high performance transmitting tubes.

The amp has two meters in good shape. Power is rated for 2000W PEP SSB, 1000W DC CW/RTTY input. Drive power is 80 or more watts. (and covers 160, 80, 40, 20 and 15 meters.)

The amp works at rated power with one small issue The receive does not come back occasionally (The relay needs cleaning)

These are selling for $1000 to $1100, but because of the relay issue, I'm asking $800.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but dreading the thought of doing that! Just doing that it almost makes sense to just get a whole new board and swap it out even.

Does anyone have, or know of what the values typically are for say all the resistors while in the board and in the amp?

One resistor may have a native value of "X" but when it is in the board and installed, when other components affect,,, effect? anyway, it changes what  measured value might be.

have any info like that?

Yeah got that. but thinking most likely stuff also it is connected to may make the measured value different than what it's natural out of board value.

Good price!

I paid double that for an 811-based amp (Ameritron 811H). It may eventually have
572B tubes installed.

Donald. Yes the fl-2500 uses five 6kd6 tubes.  Fortunately I had a couple of nos 6lf6’s left over from the 1970’s cb Palomar amp days to replace the broken one. I had to change the plate cap to a larger one to fit the 6lf6 lol. Palomar used 6kd6 tubes as drivers and 6lf6 as finals. The 6lf6 tubes are a bit more rugged and were used in 25” TV sets.  As the 6kd6 were used in the 20” and smaller crt’s. I found the 6kd6’s nos running from $39.99-$59.99. Thanks to all who responded. For $200 I think I got a decent purchase. Craig ky4pi

Re: fl-2500 Yaesu

Fixed with tube and relay repair and fans lubed. How ever 20 meters I get no amplification when trying to use amp. SWR goes off the scale when keying amp. I noticed someone had 1 of the wires from the band switch going to tuning coil swapped over 1 winding (tap) left and right of where it is now. Solder on the coil gave this away. All other bands work ok except 20 meter. Is it possible the band switch wire is soldered to the wrong tap. The manual i found online is non descriptive of which coil tap is used for which band. TIA. I picked up one today at hamfest. 1 tube had the plate resistor broken solder joint to coil. Now relay seems “semi-stuck”? With power on the amp on but in standby radio receiver signal is very low. It’s the same in operate mode although you can see the relay movement. Also at my initial install the receiver was ok. I think it’s gonna need 1 tube as it was glowing purple during tune up. Any ideas? It’s going to be a hard job to remove relay as it’s hard wired with short coax lengths. Also I wonder if any nos 6kd6 tubes exist. Craig ky4pi

Re: fl-2500 Yaesu

Looks like if you can get a filament voltage of 36 volts in there somehow, you
can use the 36V version 36KD6 and save $20 per tube.

Some do that with one of the FT-101 series of transceivers, I believe, only it's
a 22 or 24 volt tube replacing a 6 or 12 volt one. Big savings on tubes, but you
need another filament transformer to provide the odd voltage.

Are these what are used in the FL-2500? I know most TV sweep tubes are expensive
nowadays. Hamfests will be your best bet for price, if you can find any.
